Mother’s Day Part 2: The Appetizer

Mother’s Day Part 2: The Appetizer

Take your mom out on a picnic at the park! Start off your picnic with a summertime favorite. Watermelon is sweet, and best served cold by the pool or at a picnic. However, there are more creative ways to eat it – with a few simple seasonings of course. To make this melony delight, you’ll need:

1 small watermelon

Sea salt & pepper

A dash of paprika

1 fresh lemon

  1. Chop your watermelon into small chunks.
  2. Drizzle some sea salt, pepper, and paprika onto the watermelon chunks.
  3. For a tangy boost, squeeze a lemon over the chunks.
  4. Put the chunks in sealable mason jars.
  5. Put them in a picnic basket!

The salt and lemon give the watermelon an extra kick and the paprika and pepper add just the right amount of spice. Make sure to add a picnic blanket and some cheese and crackers to your picnic basket before you head off on your day out with mom. If it’s not too hot outside, grab a cup of her favorite soup!

Pair this appetizer with a delicious, easy to make turkey and Brie Sandwich. Stay tuned for part 3 of 3 in the Mother’s Day blog series! Try this recipe, and share your Mother’s Day photos with us on Facebook at
